Mana Drama y Luz
Last night at the Grammys, there were stellar performances by Adele, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Brown, Cold Play, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson and the list goes on.
Yet, would it have killed them to include a single Latin act?
That’s what many tweeters were wondering about last night when they noticed the most face time Latino artists got were in between commercials and a couple of stage passes to announce nominees. When the Grammys chopped down categories such as Latin Jazz and Musica Norteña, critics said it showed a lackluster regard for ethnic heritage. So, was it an exclusive act?
Here’s what some tweeters said including some of our VOXXI staff:
@tcpuente: Tell #Grammys to honor more Latin music. Eliminated categories in Latin jazz, banda & norteno via@presenteorg
@JulesBonfante: So even the Mouse gets his 15 minutes, but no #Latinos? #Grammys
@IvonneMalaver: “El Joe” Arroyo also echoed in the tribute to dead singers at the Grammys
@tcpuente: OK finally Soul Train’s Don Cornelius got a mention but pls no more Chris Brown. He got more air time than Adele. Shame on the #Grammys
@LaCosmopolatina: I love country music but I love latin too. Why must we choose? Why did you cut latin categories out? #grammys
@Efrain_Nieves: @AnaRC Exactly. We contributed to this country as much as anyone else, we deserve to stand in the same spotlight. #Latism
