We knew George Lopez couldn’t stay away from TV for too long. He’ll soon make his return to a television near you, as the leading man in the new FX original series “Saint George”.
The half-hour comedy thatwill premiere March 6 at 9 p.m. ET. stars George Lopez as none other than George Lopez, a recently divorced working man balancing a new business venture, culture clashes with his “gringa” ex-wife (Justified’s Jenn Lyon), and his domineering Mexican-American mamá (In the Heights’ Olga Merediz).
“In the tradition of George’s frank and fearless standup comedy, Saint George will reflect his no-holds-barred comedic take on the tensions surrounding race, class, sex and family life in Los Angeles through the eyes of a man straddling two separate cultures,” Lionsgate Television Group President Kevin Beggs said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Lopez, who starred on his self-titled ABC sitcom George Lopez and enjoyed a five-year run and later dabbled in late night TV with Lopez Tonight on TBS, has been off the air since 2011. Saint George co-created by Lopez alongside Matt Williams and David McFadzean will be judged under the 10/90 episode model.
If Saint George charms viewers and the series’ ratings fare well during the shows first 10 episodes, FX will then order an additional 90 episodes. Episodes of Saint George promise to include performances by Kaden Gibson, George’s 11-year-old son, Danny Trejo, the freeloading Tio, and David Zayas, George’s cousin.

“I’m excited about my new show, couldn’t think of a better group of people or better place to create than FX,” Lopez said in an interview with EW. “Now to get ready… back to Pilates!” joked Lopez.
