Lionel Messi, Spanish club FC Barcelona forward, is known all over the world for his talent on the field but at Monday’s FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala it was his red suit that was making people talk.
Messi’s Ron Burgundy-esque outfit set the twitter world on a small frenzy with fans and foes tweeting away their thoughts about his attire during the gala. Some were quick to compare Messi’s look not only with Ron Burgundy but with Joe Pesci in “My Cousin Vinny”. Others went as far as to imply the famous soccer player reminded them of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

3 – If he doesn’t win the Ballon D’or, Lionel Messi’s suit has at least been guaranteed a role in Anchorman 3. Burgundy.

All tweets aside, this is not the first time Lionel Messi’s outfit is considered a fashion faux pas. At last years FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala he showed up wearing a black and white polka dotted suit. His outfit resembled one worn by Argentine soccer legend Maradona back in the 80’s and was also reminiscent of Raquel Welsh’s polka dot power suit.
Messi’s also been spotted…yes, pun intended…wearing a corduroy suit and a black and gold flower-patterned tuxedo which resembled kitchen wallpaper or a couch. Ouch!
