Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. celebrated his first Champions League hat trick on Wednesday in FC Barcelona’s crushing victory over Celtic in the Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain.
The defending Spanish champion absolutely trounced the Scottish giants in their final match of the group stage.
Just 7 minutes into the match defender Gerard Pique cleans up a rebound left by Celtic’s goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in favor of Barcelona.
Pedro made it 2-0 for the Catalan squad in the 40th minute. Neymar dribbled his way to the end-line and he cut the ball back to Pedro who fired it into the back of the net.
Neymar put his stamp on the game starting in the 45th minute –his first Champions League goal.
The Brazilian wonder-kid had an easy tap-in in front of goal after Martin Montoya left the ball sitting nicely for Neymar.
The Brazil international double his tally in the 48th minute. Neymar and Xavi neatly exchanged passes on the edge of the Celtic box and Neymar slotted into the left corner with his left foot. 4-0 for Barcelona.
The Brazilian struck again in the 58th minute of the match. The new Barcelona star got past Celtic defender Ambrose and rolls the ball into the goal. The 5-0 score showed Barca had a firm grip on the match.
Cristian Tello made it 6-0 for the Spanish giants in the 72nd minute with a neat strike from just outside the box.
Giorgios Samaras put Celtic on the board in the 88th minute. The Greek international’s head connected with a free kick and smashed it past Pinto to make it 6-1.
Heartbreak in the Champions league
Napoli defeated Arsenal 2-0 at home, but the result was not enough for them to move on to the next round, after Borussia Dortmund beat Olympique Marseille 2-1.
Galatasaray, with an 85th minute strike by Dutch international Wesley Sneijder, defeated Juventus 1-0. The result helped the Turkish side into the knockout stage of the Champions League and at the same time eliminated Juventus from the competition.
