Mexico is getting bashed by the press and fans alike.

Mexico needed a 92nd minute goal by Graham Zusi to move on to the World Cup qualifying playoff against New Zealand.

The backlash for another poor performance by “El Tri” was instant.

A Mexican commentator started screaming “We love you, we love you forever and ever, God bless America!!”

He then went on a rant saying “The United States put us through to the World Cup playoff. Remember this all your life –speaking to Mexico’s players– you don’t feel the national team jersey. You did not qualify us [to the World Cup]. It was the United States! Not you and your cockiness. “

The Mexican newspapers also highlighted the US’ “favor.”

Excelsior from Mexico City had on their homepage “Thank You, USA!”

They also stated, “Mexico confirmed in 90 minutes what they had shown throughout the entire hexagonal, they do not deserve to even be in the World Cup playoff. However, their luck is so great that their arch-rival nudged them, with a last-minute goal, to the playoff.”

Other publications have titles such as “Thank You!,” “Por la ayuda (For the Help) God bless America!,” “Thanks Tio Sam (Uncle Sam)” and “We love you! ‘Amigous.’”

To make matters worse right after the match the US Mens national team official twitter account sent out a tweet that read “#YoureWelcomeMexico.”

The US account –poking some extra fun– posted “Mexico spared through no real effort of their own. Now a chance to snag some frequent flier miles before the holidays with a trip to NZL!”

The press were not the only ones hammering Mexico. Fans and politicians alike took to social media to vent their frustrations.

Mexico’s ex-President Felipe Calderon tweeted, “I hosted the national team as: Under 17 World Champion, gold medalists in the Panamerican games and gold medalists in the Olympics. What happened?”

Mexico will face New Zealand on November for a spot in Brazil 2014.
