After landing the summer cover of Cosmopolitan Latina and marking her return as Letty in “Fast & Furious 6″, Michelle Rodriguez has proved herself not only as an A-lister in Hollywood but as a role model as well. VOXXI and seven other media outlets got a chance to interview Michelle all the way from London, where she was attending the premiere of her new box-office hit, via a Google Hangout.
The cool Latina made me feel like we had been friends for a long time, when I got the chance to talk to her. Her confidence radiates and shows how comfortable she is in her own skin. That sense of self-worth that oozed even through the screen can be a source of inspiration to not only Latinas but women everywhere.
Michelle Rodriguez prepares for her role as Letty
Letty is back from the dead, or so it seems. “It’s just all about perception, isn’t it,” said Michelle during the interview. Letty’s memory is gone, but she has her gut feeling which gives her some insight as to what to do or where to go. It’s a new journey, to say the least. The fierce, bad-ass Letty has always had the reputation to stand on her own two feet, defending herself and making her an awesome fighter. Michelle said getting back into shape in order to portray Letty was really important to her and that there was a lot of preparation involved.
The “Fast & Furious” star believes that as long as your mind is right and your insides are right, you’re always going to be sexy. Being a Latina myself and seeing someone as independent as Michelle Rodriguez on the cover of Cosmo Latina is refreshing. She is the ideal representation of not only a strong woman, but a strong Latina woman.
“I’m proud. I never thought that the Cosmopolitan Latina crowd would be into what I do, actually. I was quite surprised, you know, because it really is a girly girl kind of vibe, that magazine. And I’m more of that tomboyish kind of roughneck,” said the 34-year-old when asked about the cover. Being less of a girly girl myself, this was the perfect example of why women everywhere should be proud that Michelle is not only on the cover of Cosmo but that she represents a positive image of a strong woman in our society. She is someone you can relate to and the fact that she is so down to earth doesn’t hurt either.
Michelle also talked about her fans, the love they have for her character, Letty, and how they reached out in order to bring her back to the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
“Yes, I love all the fans. And if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in ‘Fast 6′, so God bless and thank you so much for showing me so much love. It makes all that hard work that I put in worth it,” Rodriguez said.
Michelle had considered giving acting a break to do some writing, but during the interview she crushed that statement when she said that “taking a break kind of ended when ‘Fast 7′ was announced.” She also mentioned having a kid’s movie in the works along with another project called “Sedated”, which is about the drug world and how people try to self-medicate themselves.
“Fast & Furious 6″ comes out May 24, 2013 so watch out for that! Check out the trailer here.
