“The Big Wedding” puts Ana Ayora on the big screen. She plays the character Nuria, the groom’s sister who flies into the U.S. for the first time, from Colombia, to attend her brother’s wedding.
“The Big Wedding” is a comedy about a dysfunctional family and long-divorced couple Ellie and Don, played by Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro. In order to appease his son’s Catholic birth mother, Don pretends to have remained happily married to Ellie for their adopted son’s wedding. The film is the American version to Jean-Stéphane Bron’s French film “Mon frère se marie,” released in 2006. Each individual character has something they need to figure out. The film also stars Susan Sarandon, Amanda Seyfried, Katherine Heigl and Robin Williams. The all-star cast is sure to make this film an audience favorite.
The Miami native, with Colombian roots, sat down and told me all about her role in this upcoming box office hit. Here’s my Q&A with Ana Ayora:
Ana Ayora talks about her role in ‘The Big Wedding’
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I was born and raised in Miami and my family is Colombian, so we kind of were raised with both cultures. I have an absolute connection to my Colombian roots, I’ve spent a lot of time in Colombia.
Q: What was it like working with such a stellar cast?
A: If I had to sum it up in one word, amazing! I am so humbled, I’m so grateful to be a part of this project and to be working with people of this caliber. I grew up watching these people. As artists, they are so passionate and so dedicated and that was an incredible experience to be a part of.
Q: How did you feel about that nude scene?
A: I hesitated but it was my character, it’s Nuria. It wasn’t just to show body and I think that’s where nudity comes in. If it’s a part of a character… I was fine with that. It gave us an essence of who I, in that moment, was. I didn’t think about it, I just did what I did; I was Nuria.
Q: Being in “Marley and Me” this isn’t your first American film, but have you ever done anything in Spanish?
A: Not yet. I would love to, there’s so many people I would love to work with. The right opportunity has yet to present itself.
Q: If you had to pick one actor to work with, who would it be?
A: Wow, that’s a really hard question! I would love to work with Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, there are so many.
