America Sierra, new and on the rise
Mexican regional music singer America Sierra is considered one of the most prominent and successful women songwriters of the moment.
Only recently beginning her professional career in 2012, it has already skyrocketed. According to Billboard, her career has been on the rise thanks to hits like “Mienteme,” “Solo Tu,” “El Ultimo Boton” and her collaboration with 3BallMTY and El Bebeto on the No. 1 Billboard Latin Airplay smash “Intentalo,” which has over 38 million views on YouTube. She has been honored with three Billboard Mexican Music Awards and this year is competing for four Billboard Latin Music Awards, including Song of the Year and Regional Mexican Song of the Year for “Intentalo.”
Music is her path
During her childhood, America Sierra started singing and composing her first melodies. Her interest in music came from her grandfather, who played the guitar along with creating and performing his own songs. She started taking guitar lessons at the age of 14 and participated in a Sinaloa music competition conducted by a major radio station and won, which put her on the radio for the first time. The feeling of excitement she would get every time she heard her song on the radio showed Sierra that her path was with music. Before dedicating herself completely to her music, Sierra decided to go to college and study law and social sciences. Once she completed her studies she resumed her musical career and decided to move to her hometown of Culiacan, Sinaloa, an area highly terrorized by drug cartels, to record an album.
According to Sierra’s Facebook page, she is extremely flattered by the success she has had in her short career already, with many hits shooting through the roof in the radio charts.
America Sierra will be one of the women on the panel for “Latin Leading Ladies” at the 2013 Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards. The panel is made up of women who represent the power and strength of the voice of the Latina music scene. Also attending the conference are big names like Don Omar, Carlos Vives, Gloria Estefan and a list of many more who are said to take part in the conference leading up to the award show.
