Every week, after an FC Barcelona game, the Catalan fans try to think about what is the next record that Lionel Messi will be able to break.

It has gotten to a level that it seems the Argentine has no more barriers to break.

Whether it is scoring over 90 goals in a season, helping Barça come back from 2-0 against AC Milan or scoring in 18 games is arrow in the league, it seems Messi has done it all, but deep inside he knows there’s something else he needs to do.

His great performances with Barcelona have not been replicated when he wears the Argentina jersey, and Lio is ready to turn things around.

The National Team captain has played in two World Cups, and hasn’t been able to show his level on the big stage. The same thing has happened when he has participated in the Copa America, most notably in 2011, at home in Argentina, when the Barça starlet could not help his team beat the eventual champion, Uruguay, in the quarter finals.

“ I know I haven’t played well,” Messi told The Sun. “But I wasn’t the only one.”

Not enough help for Lionel Messi on Argentina?

Before the next series of games, in which Argentina will face Venezuela and Bolivia, Lionel Messi made it clear that while he wanted to take the responsibility for not giving his best, he knows that his team has also not helped the way he is playing for his club team.

“I’m my number one critic, and I know I haven’t given my best with Argentina, but I’ve always tried to do so,” continued the four time Ballon D’Or winner. “The team is changing. We are improving and we are finding the right pieces to the puzzle. I will try to make my best effort to give the fans a much needed trophy next summer.”

Argentina is currently in the first spot of the South American World Cup qualifying, and it seems they won’t have many issues to make it through to the Brazil bout. Nothing would be better for the Argentine fans than to win the best tournament in the world at their sworn rival’s home.

In order to do so, Lionel Messi will need to be at his best, but as he said, he will also need some help from the rest of the team.
