During one of their many interviews, former CNN newsman Larry King gave Spanish anchor and producer Ismael Cala advice that he has been turning over in his mind ever since.
“I never learned anything when I was talking,” King told him. “This is something I take with me every day. I try not to talk but listen during my conversations and interviews,” Ismael Cala revealed to VOXXI Wednesday as he prepared for a taping of his show which carries his namesake.
Built around the format made famous by the suspenders-donning, glasses-wearing news personality, “Cala” is a conversational program exploring issues such as politics, entertainment, business and science.
“News is about the ever-changing way we live. It’s always relevant,” Cala said.
Cala to air on CNN en Español and CNN Latino
Part of promotional tour for CNN’s new venture — CNN Latino — Ismael Cala will tape his show in front of a Los Angeles audience Thursday and Friday. Cala would interview King and other guests during Thursday’s taping.
Both tapings will take place at CNN L.A. Studios located at 6430 Sunset Boulevard. The shows will be taped from 9:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m on both days. Cala will hold a meet-and-greet in Plaza La Alameda on Friday at 7 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity for CNN in Español,” Cala told VOXXI. “It’s a magnificent platform and we are eager to meet the needs of the Latino audience based in Los Angeles.”
Cala has more than two decades of broadcasting experience in Cuba, Canada, the United States and Mexico, with a particularly high profile among the Hispanic communities of Miami and Canada, a CNN press release said. In Latin America, Cala became known on CNN en Español for covering important news events from the region as a substitute anchor.
