Janet Jackson is an expert at keeping her personal life out of the public eye. She’s been doing it since, well, the ‘90s when she secretly married her second husband.
Now, the singer managed to keep her third marriage out of the paparazzi lens and media headlines.
The pop star married billionaire retailer Wissam Al Mana last year in a private and small ceremony, Jackson announced on her website this week. Despite her Hollywood status and her billionaire husband, the couple kept a low profile and dismissed any rumors of a big wedding.
“The rumours regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private and beautiful ceremony,” Jackson said in a statement.
“Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favorite children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy.”
So, just who is Janet Jackson’s husband?
Billionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana
Janet Jackson’s husband Wissm Al Mana has a story of his own, and a righteous one.
Al Mana, a Qatar native, is the managing director of Al Mana Retail, which he runs along with his two brothers. According to Celebrity NetWorth, Al Mana’s networth is near one billion and he ranked among the richest investors in the Middle East. His company represents high-end brands like Balenciaga, Giorgio Armani, Hermes and Roberto Cavalli. Al Mana is a shareholder to Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Dubai, Bahrain and Kuwait. His company, Al Mana Luxury, is set to open a flagship A/X Exchange in a Qatar mall.
The 37-year-old Al Mana worked his way up the ladder of success starting out at 14, when he got his first retail job in London.
“I spent many years growing up in London where I developed an early love of fashion and remember applying for a job at every fashion boutique on the Kings Road,” he said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
“At 14 I finally found a weekend job at a multi-brand store. I really enjoyed it and began to acquire an insight into the world of retail that would prove crucial for my career.”
The couple began their courtship in 2010. When it comes to Jackson, he doesn’t like the “dating” reference. He prefers boyfriend and girlfriend instead.
“I don’t date Janet Jackson. She is my girlfriend; there is a difference. She is a very special and talented woman who never ceases to amaze me,” he told VMAN of his new love before they were married.
“I think a man’s dream woman changes as he goes through different stages in his life. I’m fortunate to be dating my dream woman now.”
The 46-year-old Jackson is nine years older than her husband. Jackson and Al Mana do plan on settling down and having kids.
“She wants kids,” a source told Us Weekly, “If she can’t have them, she will adopt.”
This is Jackson’s third marriage. The singer was previously dating longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri but they split in 2009.
Jackson first tied the knot to singer James DeBarge in 1984, when she was 18, but the marriage was annulled after three months. She had an amicable split from her second husband Rene Elizondo, who she secretly married in 1991. They separated in January 1999.
