Defending European champion, Barcelona, take on Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals on April 18 in London. The “Blues” have gone through a resurgence in the Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo’s men believe they can beat Barcelona.

These two squads last met in the semifinals of the Champions League in 2009. The Catalan squad went on to the finals after a last-minute blast by Andres Iniesta.

The London squad has not lost at home in the Champions League so far this season, but this will be their hardest match to date.  Chelsea’s squad, however, is not scared of Barcelona.

“Blues” defender, Ashley Cole, stated to Yahoo, “We know what Barcelona are about and that we have to be on our game. We’re confident and feel we’re good enough to progress.”

He also said, “With teams like Barca, we think we know how to stop them. Is it going to happen on the day? You never know. If people like Lionel Messi don’t turn up we have a great chance.”

The FIFA World Player of the Year, Lionel Messi, has faced Chelsea a total of six times, but he has never scored against the London squad.

Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cechstated to, “[Messi’s] ball technique is superb but, most importantly, he can react to how the game develops. At the last possible moment in any situation he can find the ideal solution. There are a lot of ways that he can finish an attack.”

He also went on to say, “On the other hand, he is also only human and, if we perform to 100 percent, we will be able to defend against him.”

The Blues know they are the underdog coming into this match-up with Barcelona, but they are still confident in their squad.

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata stated, “I came to England to win titles and I know that the FA Cup is a very important competition. Playing in the final and winning it would fulfill one of my first dreams on this adventure that I began last summer.”

Will Chelsea be able to pull off the upset?
