While there was no feature at the Oscars, Latinos are still making it prime time in other areas.
California native Jessica Sanchez, 16, and Floridian Jeremy Rosado, 19, are pushing for the win on American Idol. They just made it to the Top 24.
Last year’s winner, Scotty McCreery proudly declared his strong Puerto Rican roots. Despite his southern accent and Anglo last name.
And this time around, the stage might be set for a back-to-back Latino American idol winner.
“I’ve been doing this all my life not just for myself, but for my family. I’m tired of seeing my family struggle…I am ready to work hard you know I’m prepared for anything,” said Sanchez.
Sanchez reverberated a rousing rendition of “The Prayer.” Rosado equally wowed the judges with his strong vocal chords.
“Every time somebody would sing and sing amazing you’d be giving them a standing ovation. You’d be cheering everybody on and I said: “That’s a nice kid right there,” said Lopez. “All of who you are it came out yesterday when you sang. It was transcendental. There’s no way we wouldn’t want you in the Top 24 this year.”
