The largest online dog seller site is undergoing scrutiny for allegedly selling sick puppy mill dogs instead of top quality breeders, according to a lawsuit filed by the Humane Society of the United States and Leopold-Kuvin on behalf of 11 customers.

There were scores of angry customers that said the puppies came home sick and died within days. The company sells more than 16,000 dogs a year with a supply of 2,000 breeders, NBC Miami reports. The investigation revealed that sales agents were trained to fabricate “heart-warming” tales about where the puppies came from.

Breeders thoroughly researched? Sources say they were just asked if they had a website.
