Selena Gomez will soon shed the little girl image that made her a beloved staple of “kid television” everywhere. The former “Wizards of Waverly Place” star recently revealed she will begin shooting a very “raw” role in Harmony Korine’s latest project, “Spring Breakers.”
Korine is best known for penning the 90’s mega-dark classic, “Kids”, the film former Senator Bob Dole called, “A nightmare of depravity” and received an NC-17 rating for its graphic and disturbing portrayal of teenage sex and drugs during the height of the HIV era in the 90’s.
Gomez, who up until now has mostly acted in kid friendly comedies, will take on the role of the reluctant girl in the film about a group of college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. “It’s a different character than I have ever played before,” she said. “It’s a different kind of vibe I think than people are used to seeing me in. It’s going to be raw and more about acting, ” said Gomez to MTV News.
With this new role, will Gomez maintain her core Disney fans?
